I must say i believe the epic events of Saturday night which were of course primary to the matches played during the day. From about 7pm the club was filled with a healthy splattering of beards and blazers. Several excellent examples were on show, special mentions have to go to Coleman and Sherry, never one shy of a fine beard. Several large pizza's were greedily consumed by the Goon's in the clubhouse much to the bemusement of Sir M Knox. Jug's were the order of the day and this was before Rev's even entered the equation. After picking up beers for the journey the long walk to Rev's began. The journey was to suffer a casulty as Mr Carter sloped off home not to join in the hilarious banter that followed. Teapot Musk had ensured free entry to help the poor students and Merv. Once inside Mr Harris showed us what Rev's nights had been missing before now with some chat Lord Bentall of Chattinghamshire would have been proud of, You'll have to ask him what your saving by having a Cesar. Then to spice up the evening even further soon to be stagged Swindle appeared in Black Tie, a few people suggesting this was a little to smart for Rev's. However he also brought club coach Rich along for a few beverages. The night slowly fell into the usual debauchery, Egg was seen pulling a wide one before Merv used camera related banter to woo a young lady, God only know's how that happened cause i certainly can't remember, answers on a postcard!! All in all an excellent evening was had by all and many more goon's have to make a mass trip to this fine establishment, dates to follow

Kew 205-9 (B Friderichs 121, S Hussain 3-35, S Ahmed 3-44)
Beaconsfield 206-4 (M Harris 70*, S Mahmood 63, J Sherry 39)

Beaconsfield made it 10 league wins for the season as the put in-form Kew to the sword on Saturday. The home side made light-work of chasing the first 200+ score they’ve conceded since playing Kew earlier in the season.

On a very good batting wicket and one of the quickest outfields seen at Beaconsfield this season, Kew’s 205 off 52 overs never looked enough. Despite the loss of Paul Abbott caught behind off the bowling of Tom Collins early on, Kew got off to a positive start with the leagues in form batsman, Bruce Friderichs looking to impose himself on the Beaconsfield attack. Mevan Dunusinghe (27) worked hard to support Friderichs until he was finally dismissed by Jon Mahood who despite not being at his best restricted the scoring with 1-40 off his 13 overs. The breaks were really put on by Paul Gurnell (0-38) and Shakeel Ahmed (3-44) as their 27 overs conceded just 82 runs. Friderichs found himself playing a lone hand as he reached his 100 in the 46th over before finally falling to Saj Hussain (3-35) for 121, one of two stumping victims for Matt Harris, in a pretty much faultless innings which gave the visitors a reasonable score, but probably 30-40 short of a competitive total.

Despite the early loss of Ben Coleman, the in form pair of Shahid Mahmood (63) and Jamie Sherry (39) dominated against the old ball, dealing mostly in boundaries and by the time Mahmood was dismissed in the 18th over, the home side was well above the rate as young Bucks opening bowler James Tinknell was particularly given harsh treatment conceding 69 runs off his 9 overs. With Matt Harris joining Sherry at the crease, Beaconsfield continued at a good rate towards their target and despite the loss of Sherry and then Chris Thomas (12) to Mike O’Toole the league leaders comfortably chased down the 206 required in the 40th over with Harris finished 70* and well supported by Sam Musk (10*). Harris has now scored 414 runs this season at an average of 104.

Next week Beaconsfield travel to Amersham for the local derby looking to continue on their road to promotion.

Chesham 145-9 (G Rance 35, H Modi 34, P Gurnell 4-23)
Beaconsfield 147-4 (S Ahmed 52*)

Beaconsfield cruised into the quarter-finals of the Bucks Cup with a solid victory at league rivals Chesham. The home side were always on the back foot as they fell to 20-4 with Jon Mahood (2-15) and Denzil Owen (2-24) doing the early damage. A spirited partnership between Graham Rance (35) and the Hitesh Modi (34), who was struggling with a foot injury from Saturday’s derby with Amersham, ensured that the home side reached a respectable target, however when Mahood caught Rance at long-off of Shakeel Ahmed (1-29) and Paul Gurnell (4-23) removed both Modi and Adam Bilby (20) in quick succession the writing was on the wall for Chesham as they were only defending 145.

However an extraordinary first over from Jason Rance (2-34) saw both Shahid Mahmood & Jamie Sherry back to the pavilion, but also 11 runs conceded. Chris Thomas (25) and Ben Coleman (10) the first part of rebuilding the Beaconsfield inning before both were bowled by Modi (2-31) leaving the visitors reeling on 56-4. However a 91 run partnership between Shakeel Ahmed (52*) and Sam Musk (23*) rescued the initiative back for Beaconsfield who eventually chased down the target of 147 inside 23 overs as Ahmed won the game and reached his 50 by dispatching Matthew Brown for 6 over square leg.

Beaconsfield will host Wolverton Town on Sunday 10th August in the next round of the Bucks Cup.

Sunday 27 August

Burnham (1st) XI 289 all out
Beaconsfield (Sunday) XI 195 all out

Another roasting hot sunday, another team taking sunday cricket WAY too seriously..

Beaconsfield started in the field, with the mighty Egg and Rory opening the bowling, both bowling tightly. Egg snared one of the wickets of the season, taking one of the openers Caught and Bowled low and sharply to his right.
The runs slowly started to flow, Staffs and Colin replacing the openers. Colin managing to take one wicket in his 1st spell with a bit of coaching from the mighty Staffs, unfortunately bringing out the local pro who we were told could bat a bit...Merv and the Palm dog (J Palmer) then came on to soften him up.. and they did.. The pro sadly taking exception to Jimmy's bowling and hitting him for 33 in one over.. Merv cunningly buying a wicket to long on. He then injured his finger and yours truly had to come on (things must be bad!) The pro decided to hit me too, only finding Merv at long on, pulling off a stunning catch. Two more fell to me (who promptly hung themselves) one for a golden duck.. Egg, Colin and Rory then all came back for second spells, Colin wrapping up the tail with some nice yorkers. Mentions MUST go to Shamil for the run out, Adam for 3 stumpings and Rory for being pick of the bowlers, yet somehow still managing not to pick up a wicket...

Matt and Shamil opened the batting, both batting well for 41 and 21 respectively, the scoring was constant throughout the side but such a large chase was always an outside bet at best.. Patrick scoring 24, continuing to follow Chaz's teachings...

In the end all enjoyed the day out , but for one or two little episodes...

Looking forward to getting another pro out next Sunday,

Jim Y
